Argentière: an authentic village in the heart of the valley

Nestled at 1250 metres above sea level, the village of Argentière has everything to seduce passers-by or those who wish to settle in the valley! With its typical mountain village architecture, magnificent glacier and ski areas (including Grands Montets), Argentière is the perfect summer or winter destination.

Argentière: a typical mountain village

Whether you are passing through or you want to buy a property in the valley, Argentière has everything to seduce you! Nestled at an altitude of 1250 metres, at the foot of an impressive glacier and the majestic Aiguille Verte, (4122 metres), Argentière is liked for its authentic mountain village character.

The historic centre and the hamlet of Le Tour have retained their charm of days gone by with farmhouses with traditional architecture. Like the church of Saint-Pierre (18th century) with its bell tower and its small, atypical neighbourhoods (Montroc, Le Planet, Les Frasserands, Trélechamp...), the village has a rich and authentic heritage which you can discover in any season.

A cradle of large mountain guide families, Argentière is an integral part of mountaineering history and Chamonix culture.

Skiing: the most beautiful ski domains nearby

In Argentière, lovers of winter sports will be delighted! In the immediate vicinity of the village (between 5 and 10 minutes by car) you will find the valley’s most beautiful ski areas.

Starting with Les Grands Montets, a mythical domain spread over three faces. This unmissable spot has made Argentière an stronghold for French and international skiing.

Known to freeriders from around the world, "Les Grands”, known as “GM” in English, offers superb off-piste and impressive elevation gain. This site also lends itself well to mountaineering in summer.

At the entrance of the village, the ski area of Les Chosalets is the ideal place for children and beginners of all ages who wish to discover the joys of the mountains.

Located on the Swiss border, the Balme ski area – shared with Vallorcine – is accessible to skiers of all levels and offers a beautiful panorama of the Chamonix valley. The Domaine de la Vormaine, located at the foot of the Domaine de Balme, also offers a secure place for beginners, no matter their age.

The starting point to many hikes

Perfect for winter sports, Argentière is also very pleasant in the summer season and acts as the starting point for many hiking trails, including:

  • Lac Blanc from the Col des Montets
  • Petit Balcon Sud: Argentière – Les tines
  • Péclerey hike
  • Croix de Lognan
  • Petit Balcon Nord: Le Tour - Argentière or Argentière – Les Bois
  • Col de Balme
  • Lac des Chéserys

The village also has restaurants, hotels, and B&Bs to stop at on the Tour du Mont-Blanc!
