A multicultural region awaiting to be explored
Chamonix is located in the Haute-Savoie administrative department in the Auvergne-Rhônes-Alpes region of France. It is near the departments of Ain and Savoie as well as the Swiss cantons of Geneva, Vaud and Valais and the Aoste Valley in Italy.
There are several large mountains in the area, including the Mont Blanc, with an elevation of 4,809 metres, that sits between France and Italy.
This region has a long history of art and tradition, with extraordinary cultural, tourist and environmental heritage.  Nearly 800,000 people live in the department of Haute-Savoie, which has a number of tourist areas such as Lake Annecy and its beaches, the Chamonix Valley, Lake Geneva and more than 50 ski resorts. The department also enjoys a very attractive economy due to its close proximity to Geneva.
The most dynamic areas are Geneva/Annemasse, Annecy/Thônes, Cluses/Bonneville, Thonon-Les-Bains and Evian-les-Bains.
The region and department have several airports and a TGV high-speed railway station, and are quickly accessible by the A40/A41 motorway, the airports of Annecy Haute-Savoie Mont Blanc, the Annemasse Aerodrome and the Megève Altiport. Visitors can also arrive via the international airports of Geneva, Lyon and Chambery, or the TGV high-speed railway stations in Geneva, Annecy and Bellegarde.
The region’s cuisine is well known, with a culinary heritage that combines influences from Switzerland, Italy and France in a harmonious blending of flavours.
