Climbing World Cup: the best climbers expected in Chamonix

A must-see for sports and mountain enthusiasts, the climbing World Cup brings together the best athletes of the discipline at the foot of Mont Blanc from 8th to 10th July 2022. Chamonix Sotheby’s International Realty gives you all the information you need to attend this event.

The climbing World Cup: a real institution in Chamonix

Along with the Marathon and Ultra-Trail races (UTMB), the climbing World Cup is one of the most important summer sporting events in the valley. After a cancellation in 2020 due to the health crisis and a peculiar event in 2021 due to Covid and the proximity to the Tokyo Olympics, the competition is fully resuming its course in Chamonix from 8th to 10th July 2022.

These new dates replace the historical calendar (11th, 12th and 13th July) which preceded 14th July celebrations.

From Friday 8th July, the capital of alpinism will welcome the best climbers in the world for three days to participate in Lead and Speed events. It is an international event open to all and free to attend.

An eco-responsible event

The climbing World Cup has been organised for 18 years by the Club des Sports Chamonix thanks to its many volunteers. Committed to an eco-responsible approach, the association is making every effort to minimise the environmental impact of the event, on all levels:
• Catering
• Transport
• Waste
• Purchases
• Accessibility

The 2022 climbing World Cup programme

The athletes will meet at Place du Mont-Blanc in Chamonix, to compete for three days on the two artificial structures which have been installed for the events (Speed and Lead walls). The events will be interspersed with entertainment for the public, according to the following programme:

8th July 2022

• Training session for the World Cup Speed event, from 5pm to 7pm
• Qualification for the World Cup Speed event, from 7pm to 9pm
• Screening of films from the Chamonix Film Festival, starting at 9pm.

9th July 2022

• Qualification for the World Cup Lead event, from 10am to 5pm
• Screening of films from 7.30pm-8pm
• Les Grandes Jambes concert from 8pm to 9pm
World Cup Final Speed event from 9pm

10th July 2022

• Semi-finals of the World Cup Lead event from 10am to 12.30pm
• Climbing session open to all on the speed wall between 3pm and 6pm
Final of the World Cup Lead event from 8.30pm.

As with each edition, many spectators are expected at Place du Mont-Blanc to participate in the festivities and encourage these athletes from all over the world.
