Gastronomy: Chamonix Sotheby’s International Realty’s top places to eat

When it comes to the art of living, gastronomy holds a special place in the valley, where there are many renowned establishments. Discover the Chamonix Sotheby’s International Realty agency’s selection.

Matafan's modern cuisine

In Savoyard regional cuisine, matafan (or “matefaim”) is a known traditional dish: a thick, salty pancake that is a meal on its own.

In Chamonix, Le Matafan is also the name of a restaurant with a refined and cosy charm to it. Those who have had lunch or dinner at this restaurant in the centre of town can only praise the setting, the cosy atmosphere, the food and the service, which is always warm and attentive.

In the kitchen, Chef Mickey Bourdillat offers a modern menu, which is regularly renewed, and made from carefully selected seasonal products.

On the menu (extracts):
• Broad bean ravioli, Pecorino cheese cream, pistachio and radicchio
• Octopus "meurette", mashed potatoes with garlic and parsley
• Skirt of Black Angus beef, tomatoes, confit artichokes, potatoes, hot sauce
• Apricot in a thin tart, almonds, apricot sorbet, burrata cream and pollen

The Matafan has a beautiful terrace and is open daily, for lunch from 12 pm (menu or lunch menu) and in the evening from 7 pm (menu only).

Le Cap-Horn, an invitation to travel

Le Cap-Horn is one of Chamonix Valley’s not to be missed restaurants. Guests are welcomed in a warm setting with a large, elegantly decorated room, which extends onto a terrace offering a stunning view of Mont Blanc.

Influenced by land and sea, the cuisine harmoniously blends French cuisine and world cuisine, and takes inspiration from Japanese cuisine thanks to Master Sushi Chef Kazutaka Osaka. With over 350 options, the wine list perfectly complements the dishes on offer.

On the menu (extracts):
• Sushi trays
• "Wagyu" beef carpaccio, parmesan cream, celery, and rocket
• Salmon "Amarillo Mixto" ceviche, white fish and crustaceans, coriander and red onions
• Spatchcocked cockerel, marinated in hot pepper and coconut milk, sesame green beans and coriander
• Raspberry soufflé with chocolate chips and pistachio ice cream.

Located in the centre of Chamonix, Le Cap-Horn is open daily for lunch (from 12 pm) and dinner (from 7 pm).

La Télécabine, between local and modern

Awarded by the Michelin Guide ("Bib Gourmand" since 2017), La Télécabine restaurant is the ideal place to taste Savoyard specialities in Chamonix.

Located in the town centre with its pleasant terrace facing Mont Blanc and its cosy interior with decorations hinting at the mountains, this property offers a generous and tasty cuisine.

The owners, Béatrice and Michael, have worked in the valley’s restaurant industry for 30 years and now work alongside their son, Axel. They have been running this property since 2014, offering both traditional and inventive dishes that honour fresh and seasonal produce.

On the menu (extracts):
• Tapas
• Savoyard fondue with 16-month-old refined Comté, reserve "M. Petit"
• Grilled sea bream served with its fine ratatouille and tomato coulis with olives
• Pavlova (strawberries, raspberries, Italian cream and yoghurt ice cream)

The restaurant La Télécabine is open daily, at lunch (from 12 pm) and in the evening (from 7 pm). It is open continuously (from 12pm to 11pm) in high season.
